Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Cairo

Your adventure begins the moment you touch down at Cairo International Airport. Cairo is a city that never sleeps, a sprawling metropolis where medieval architecture meets 21st-century ambition.
Upon arrival, your dedicated tour manager will be waiting for you. You will be escorted to a private, air-conditioned vehicle and driven to your hotel.
Once you arrive at your hotel, your tour manager will handle the check-in process.
Overnight: Cairo

Day 2The Great Pyramids and the Treasures of Antiquity

After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, you will meet your private Egyptologist guide.
You will head to the Giza Plateau, home to the only surviving wonder of the ancient world.
The Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu): Built around 2560 BC, it remained the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. Your guide will explain the mathematical precision of its construction—nearly 2.3 million stone blocks, each weighing an average of 2.5 tons.
The Pyramids of Chephren and Mykerinus: While smaller than Khufu’s, these structures are equally impressive and offer a clearer look at the original limestone casing that once covered all the pyramids.
The Great Sphinx: This limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human, stands guard over the plateau. You will visit the Valley Temple, which faces the Sphinx and was used for the mummification process of King Chephren.
Lunch will be served at a high-quality local restaurant. This is your chance to try traditional Egyptian staples like Koshary (a mix of lentils, rice, and pasta) or fresh grilled Kofta.
In the afternoon, you will transition from the scale of the pyramids to the intricacy of ancient artifacts. The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square (or the Grand Egyptian Museum, depending on the current opening status) houses over 120,000 items. The highlight, of course, is the Tutankhamun Collection, including his iconic solid gold death mask and the breathtaking jewelry found within his tomb.
Overnight: Cairo
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 3Cairo and the Magic of Khan El Khalili

We begin the morning in Old Cairo, exploring the Coptic quarter.
The Hanging Church (Al-Muallaqa): Built atop the gates of the Roman fortress of Babylon, its nave is suspended over the passage. It is one of the oldest churches in Egypt, dating back to the 3rd century.
Ben Ezra Synagogue: According to local tradition, this is the site where the basket of baby Moses was found. It is a beautiful example of Jewish heritage in the heart of Egypt.
Next, we move to the medieval heart of the city. Khan El Khalili is Cairo’s old bazaar, a labyrinth of narrow alleys filled with the scent of spices, the sound of copper being hammered, and the glittering of silver. It is the perfect place to practice your bargaining skills and pick up authentic souvenirs.
As the sun sets, you have the option to return to Giza for the Sound & Light Show ($30 USD per person). The pyramids are illuminated against the night sky while a recorded narration tells the history of the kings and the building of these monuments. It is a kitschy but undeniably magical experience.
Overnight: Cairo
Meals: Breakfast

Day 4Luxor, the Gateway to Upper Egypt

You will check out of your hotel and transfer to the railway station for a unique Egyptian experience: a train journey through the Nile Valley. This 7-10 hour trip allows you to see the rural side of Egypt—green fields, palm trees, and farmers working the land just as they have for millennia.
Upon arrival in Luxor, you will be transferred to your Nile Cruise ship. This floating hotel will be your base for the next four nights. After a delicious lunch on board, you will visit the East Bank.
Karnak Temple: This is more than a temple; it is a vast complex of sanctuaries, kiosks, and pylons. The Hypostyle Hall, with its 134 massive columns, is one of the most awe-inspiring sights in the world.
Luxor Temple: Located in the heart of the city, this temple was dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship. It is particularly beautiful at dusk when the stone glows under the floodlights.
Overnight: on board Nile Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5The City of the Dead and Sailing to Edfu

Prepare for a day of exploration on the West Bank, where the sun sets and the Pharaohs were laid to rest.
The Valley of the Kings, this royal cemetery contains 62 tombs, including those of Ramses II and Tutankhamun. You will descend into the earth to see the vibrant colors of the hieroglyphics, which remain incredibly preserved due to the dry desert air.
Next is the mortuary temple of the female Pharaoh Hatshepsut. Designed by her architect Senenmut, the temple is unique for its three-tiered terraces that blend seamlessly into the limestone cliffs of Deir el-Bahari.
On your way back to the ship, you will stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III that have stood in the Theban Necropolis for 3,400 years.
For the truly adventurous, an early morning Hot Air Balloon Tour ($99 USD per person) is available. Drifting over the temples and the lush green Nile ribbon as the sun rises is an experience you will never forget.
In the afternoon, the cruise begins its journey south toward Edfu. Enjoy dinner on deck as the Egyptian landscape glides by.
Overnight: on board Nile Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6The Temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo

As your cruise continues, you will visit two of the best-preserved temples in the country.
In Edfu, you will visit the Temple of Horus, the falcon-headed god. This Ptolemaic temple is nearly intact, providing a perfect example of how an ancient Egyptian temple would have functioned. Its massive pylon entrance is one of the most photographed spots in the country.
After lunch and more sailing, you arrive at Kom Ombo. This temple is unique because it is double, meaning it is symmetrical and dedicated to two gods.
You will spend the evening sailing toward Aswan, the southernmost city of your journey.
Overnight: on board Nile Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7 Aswan, the Jewel of the Nile

Aswan is known for its stunning scenery, Nubian culture, and the granite quarries that provided the stone for the pyramids.
The High Dam: A modern engineering marvel built in the 1960s to control the flooding of the Nile and provide hydroelectric power to the nation.
The Unfinished Obelisk: Located in the northern granite quarries, this massive structure would have been the largest obelisk ever built had it not cracked during construction. It offers a fascinating look at ancient stone-cutting techniques.
The highlight of Aswan is the Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis. Because the original site was flooded by the dam, the entire temple was moved stone-by-stone to Agilkia Island. Reaching it by a small motorboat is a serene and beautiful experience.
You will enjoy your final night on the deluxe Nile cruise, celebrating the end of a magnificent journey with a farewell dinner.
Overnight: on board Nile Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8Farewell

After one last breakfast on the Nile, it is time to say goodbye to the crew and your fellow travelers. You will disembark from the cruise and be transferred to Aswan Airport for your flight home or your next destination.
Meals: Breakfast
